Boarding directly on joists crushes your insulation
UK homes need around 270mm of loft insulation, but ceiling joists are usually only 100mm deep. Lay boards straight on the joists and you squash the insulation to a third of its depth – cutting its performance by up to 50% and pushing your heating bills up.

How it works
A raised loft floor in three simple steps
Fix the Stilts
Screw each LoftRise loft stilt base directly onto your existing ceiling joists at 400–600mm centres, straight through the insulation without compressing it.
Fit the Battens
Fix timber battens onto the stilt top plates to create a level sub-frame that sits comfortably above your full insulation depth.
Lay Your Boards
Screw standard loft boards to the battens and you're done – a strong, level raised loft floor ready for boxes, suitcases and seasonal storage.
